The detail set for the Tiger I in 1:35 scale from Rye Field Model is intended to upgrade a finished tank kit. It is not a model of the tank but a set of details.

The essential point first: you are not buying a model of the tank but an addition to one. The set belongs to a line Rye Field Model keeps alongside its own kits and which replaces the simplified parts from the box with more accurate ones. The name of the set is general and states neither the contents of the package nor the target kit, so check against the box that the set matches the model you are building.
Injection-molded plastic has its limits. Thin sheet metal, grilles, tool brackets, eyes and chains necessarily come out of a mold heavier than they were in reality, and some shapes cannot be got into a mold at all. A detail set deals with that difference: the parts are thinner, sharper and more faithful, so what shows on a finished model is above all the outline of the edges and the see-through of the grilles. On a type like the Tiger I, which is widely built and widely compared, it is exactly that difference in detail that often sets a pretty model apart from a very good one.
Go through the instructions in full before the first part and work out the sequence, because detail sets usually have to go on before the hull or the turret is closed. Bend photo-etched parts over a sharp edge or in a bending tool, not in your fingers; sheet that has been creased once trues up badly. Choose the glue according to the material: super glue for metal, thin cement for plastic. Degrease metal parts and spray them with primer before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. And do not forget that added detail has to be worked into the weathering just like the rest of the model, otherwise it looks like a foreign element.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted and is not a model of a vehicle. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check that it matches your own kit.
