Special Mask 1:72 masking set for the Curtiss P-40F and P-40L Warhawk, die-cut masks for precise spraying of the glazing. An accessory for the build, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Die-cut self-adhesive masks by Special Mask for a model of the Curtiss P-40F and P-40L fighter in 1:72 scale. It is neither a kit nor decals: it is an accessory that takes the place of cutting adhesive tape by hand and makes sure the cockpit canopy frames come out sharp and equally wide.
The P-40F differs from the usual Warhawks in its powerplant: instead of the Allison engine it got a British Merlin built under license, and so it lacks the characteristic carburetor intake above the nose. The line of the nose is noticeably cleaner as a result, which is an important recognition feature when building that particular variant. The L version was derived from it as a lightened modification. Both types saw service above all in the fighting over the Mediterranean and North Africa.
In 1:72 scale the cockpit is small and the frames are narrow, and that is exactly where a pre-cut mask pays off most, because cutting a strip less than a millimeter wide straight and repeatedly by hand is beyond most people. Do not touch the glazing with your fingers before sticking the masks on, because grease from the skin holds the mask less well and can leave a mark under the varnish. Fill the inside of the cockpit with a piece of damp cotton wool or modeling putty so that no sprayed paint gets in. Spray the interior shade first, then the color of the airframe, and take the mask off shortly after it has dried.
This is an accessory for the build. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
