A resin figure in 1:35 from the PANZER ART brand. The name sets out the role: the commander of a vehicle. That is a different figure from a tanker away from the machine — a commander belongs in the turret hatch, and his main task on a model is to give the vehicle a direction of gaze.
A commander in a hatch is the most effective figure of all in building a diorama: a single figure determines where the whole scene is looking, and the viewer automatically looks for a target behind him. It pays, therefore, to turn him so that his gaze lines up with the axis of the barrel, or deliberately not to, if you want to express looking around. The clothing matches Pacific service, that is light firm cotton fabric of a looser cut. It holds its shape and breaks into shorter folds with sharper edges, so when painting it takes both lightening and shadow well. Because usually only the upper half of the figure shows, shift your attention to the head, the shoulders and the hands — the whole impression happens there.
Wash the part in lukewarm water with dish soap, to get rid of the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a disc, sand wet and with breathing protection, glue with cyanoacrylate glue and fill the gaps. Before painting, try the figure dry in the hatch and adjust the lower part of the body if need be — on a half figure it will be hidden anyway. The painting approach: primer, a mid tone of the fabric, lightened edges, a dark glaze into the recesses. Give the face the most time, because it is in the foreground: a skin base, thin glazes into the eye sockets and under the cheekbones, careful lightening of the nose and the chin. Suggest the eyes with a dark line rather than painting the white, as that reads more naturally in miniature. At the end a matte clear coat and light dust on the shoulders.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
