A foot patrol figure item from Black Dog model in 1:35 scale. Unlike the items that carry N°1 and N°2 in the name, this one is given in the plural, so it aims at the modeler who is building a whole small group rather than one standalone figure.
With a patrol it is the spacing that decides. Do not set the figures in a row or in a regular triangle; a loose file in which each watches a different sector of the surroundings looks natural. Leave a larger gap between them than seems right at first glance; in 1:35 scale a crowded base reads worse than an emptier one. One fixed point in the scene that the group relates to also helps: the entrance to a yard, a marker post, a barrier.
It pays to work in layers across the whole group: first the undercoat on all of them, then the base tone of the equipment on all of them, and only after that the details. That saves mixing and keeps the tone consistent. Leave the faces for the end and paint them one after another, so that the skin shades do not converge on a single average. Finally go over the group with one light dusting; a shared layer of dust ties the figures together more than any small detail.
