A basic photo-etched set in brass sheet for a plastic model of the Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.F2 tank in 1:35 scale. The set does not make up a model on its own — it is an accessory that replaces those parts of a kit where the plastic is too thick for technological reasons, and adds shapes that an injection mold cannot release. Dimensionally it is based on the Border BT-003 kit.
The F2 is the version in which the short 7.5 cm gun was replaced by a long 7.5 cm barrel with a muzzle brake. That change did not show up only in the turret: it redistributed the weight, changed the handling of the ammunition inside, and around the turret and the hull it added details that are on the limit of what can be released from a mold in 1:35 scale — mounts, eyes, catches and thin sheet metal covers. Around the turret ring and on the turret roof these are often parts less than a millimeter wide; in plastic nothing is left of them but a suggested relief, whereas in photo-etched metal they have a real edge and a shadow.
For this set the choice of joint is the key thing. Cyanoacrylate glue is faster and predominates in modeling practice — it holds well on degreased brass and calls for no extra equipment. Soldering with a micro soldering iron gives a stronger joint that can be sanded and suits parts that assemble into a three-dimensional whole and will be under load, but it takes practice and must not get near plastic. Anyone soldering for the first time should try it out on a spare fret. Whatever you choose, the joint has to be clean: a surplus of cyanoacrylate glue dulls the surrounding sheet, and after the paint is sprayed on that shows up as a milky stain.
It is an accessory, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
