An injection-molded plastic kit of the German battleship Bismarck in 1:350 scale from Tamiya. At this scale it is a sizable ship model with a great many fine details: the hull skin carries engraved plating texture, and on the deck you will find the main armament turrets, superstructures, cranes, boats, ladders and companionways. A large stand with a nameplate for displaying the finished model is included in the package. The model builds as a full hull for a display case.
The Bismarck was the largest and most modern battleship of the Kriegsmarine of her day, commissioned in 1940. Her main armament consisted of eight 38 cm guns in four twin turrets. She became famous during Operation Rheinübung in the spring of 1941: in the Battle of the Denmark Strait she sank the British battlecruiser HMS Hood, was hit herself and, in the pursuit of several days that followed and that drew in dozens of Royal Navy ships, was sunk on May 27, 1941. She is among the best-known warships of the twentieth century.
Glue the plastic parts with thin modeling cement for plastic, which melts the surface and binds the joint firmly. Apply a primer before painting; the painting itself is best done with an airbrush, and the hull is usually divided by color along the waterline: a lighter side, a darker underwater part and any camouflage stripes. Fill and clean up the fine superstructures and small parts (cranes, boats, armament) carefully. The model comes alive with a dark wash run into the engraved seams of the deck planking and with light weathering; anyone who wants to go further can add photo-etched railings and ladders from accessory sets to the hull and the decks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
