An injection-molded plastic kit of the German destroyer Z-30 from Trumpeter in 1:350 scale, capturing the ship as she appeared in 1942. The kit has finely shaped plastic with a suggested wooden deck, clear parts and a photo-etched fret for railings and other fine details. The hull is designed as a full hull, so the model sits on the enclosed stand; there is no waterline option with this kit. A neat, compact model of a less common subject.
The Z-30 was the last of the type 1936A destroyers, nicknamed Narvik. These were large and heavily armed German destroyers with a main caliber of 150 mm, torpedo tubes and anti-aircraft armament. The Z-30 entered service at the end of 1941 and survived the war; she later served as a training and target ship and was scrapped after the war. Destroyers of this class suffered from powerplant troubles, but they were strong units in their category.
The small hull and the fine superstructure call for careful gluing with liquid cement for plastic. Bend the photo-etched railings and details precisely and glue them with cyanoacrylate. Mask the clear parts before spraying. Paint with an airbrush in the period German naval camouflage in shades of gray; tone down the suggested wooden deck and bring out the planking lightly. Discreet weathering and panel highlighting will give the small model scale and depth. Apply the decals on a gloss coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
