An injection-molded plastic kit of the Russian nuclear submarine K-141 Kursk in 1:350 scale from the manufacturer Zvezda. The model captures the massive hull of an Oscar II class missile submarine with its characteristic rounded bow and large sail; the package holds injection-molded sprues and decals. Thanks to the large scale the assembled model is remarkably long, around 44 cm.
K-141 Kursk was a Russian nuclear submarine with guided missiles of the Project 949A class (Oscar II in the NATO code), built to destroy carrier task forces with anti-ship missiles. It was one of the largest submarines of its day, with a double hull. The Kursk sank in the Barents Sea in 2000 after an explosion on board; the disaster, in which the whole crew died, became one of the best known accidents of the modern navy.
The submarine can be built as a full-hull model on a stand or as a waterline on a diorama base representing the sea. Dry-fit the hull halves and sand the joint carefully once the glue has dried, so that the seam disappears. Spray the hull matte black, set the deck apart and tie the surface together with a fine wash. Finish the sail and the small parts last.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
