1:350 N.Y.K. Line Hikawa Maru, a Hasegawa plastic kit of the famous Japanese ocean liner that is still moored as a museum ship in Yokohama, in 1:350 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This plastic kit from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa in 1:350 scale captures Hikawa Maru, the elegant ocean liner of the N.Y.K. Line shipping company. A civil ship is a pleasant change among modeling subjects: the Art Deco silhouette with its black hull and white superstructures stands out in a display case beside the grays of warships.
Hikawa Maru entered service in 1930 and sailed the prestigious transpacific route between Yokohama and Seattle, where she earned the nickname Queen of the Pacific. During the Second World War she served as a hospital ship, thanks to which she survived the conflict, and after the war she returned to the Pacific route. Today she is preserved as a museum ship in the port of Yokohama; she is a rarely surviving Japanese prewar merchant ship that can still be visited.
Build and sand the hull first: mask the dividing line between the black hull and the red finish below the waterline with good tape. Paint the decks and the superstructures as subassemblies and glue them only once painted. The look is markedly lifted by accessory photo-etched railings; the model stands out beautifully on a polished stand. A fine wash accentuates the windows and the deck detail.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
