The Very Fire kit treats the American light cruiser Birmingham with the hull number CL-62 and is offered in the premium Deluxe form. In 1:350 scale it is a large model with a quantity of small parts that will call for dozens of hours of work and a corresponding set-up. Birmingham belonged to the numerous class of American light cruisers built during the Second World War. The real subject is characterized by a main armament of medium caliber divided into several triple turrets and by an exceptionally strong anti-aircraft battery, which on the ships of this class kept growing during the war as the nature of the fighting in the Pacific changed. Cruisers of this type escorted the aircraft carrier task forces and also performed supporting tasks during landing operations. For a modeler that means one thing: the later the state of the ship you choose, the more small weapons there will be on deck.
Lay the build out in whole sections and let the hull cure perfectly before you move on to the superstructures. Fit the anti-aircraft positions and the masts as late as possible, because every later touch with a brush or masking tape will harm them. The wartime schemes of American cruisers work with sharply bounded areas, so reckon with an airbrush and careful masking. A wash in the gaps of the deck and a fine emphasis of the edges with a dry brush will give the large gray areas depth. The finished model is sizable and sensitive to dust, so a display case is not a luxury but a necessity.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
