A wooden flight deck for a model of the American aircraft carrier USS Enterprise CV-6 in 1:350 scale, according to the name in the blue finish. The adhesive veneer with pre-printed plank laying is glued onto the plastic deck of the kit; the product itself contains no model and it is cut for the Merit 65302 kit.
The same ship can have a very different expression in a model depending on which deck you choose. Light natural wood lifts the area optically and brightens the model, while a dark blue tone settles it down and lets the superstructure and the fittings stand out. Make the choice at the start of the build, therefore, because it also affects how strong the contrast of the hull paint will be and how far the deck will need to be brought out with weathering.
The procedure is the same as with the light variant: level and degrease the plastic, try it dry, take the film off in sections and lay from the centerline out to the sides. On a dark surface, though, two more things apply. Dust shows up better on it, so work in a clean space, and any accentuation of the seams has to be gentler, because the contrast between dark wood and a dark wash is small. A lighter dry brush run along the edges of the planks works better here than a dark wash.
