Pasted-up surfaces for an abandoned city

Posters and advertising boards with motifs from the world of the game Fallout 4 in 1:35 scale. On a diorama they fill walls, poles and fencing, that is the surfaces a builder usually leaves empty because nothing will fit on them.

How a pasted-up surface reads

A viewer looks at a display case from about half a meter, and at that distance they do not read the text on a poster but its color, shape and arrangement. Credibility therefore does not come from the sharpness of the printing but from order: sheets pasted at one height, a regular rhythm on fencing, a cluster around an entrance and an empty surface where no one can reach. Where the posters overlap, a layering arises that in itself suggests how long they have been hanging there.

How to take the newness off them

• Do not tear the edges in one go; tear them slowly and irregularly.
• Suggest a lifted corner by pressing only the tip down and leaving the lower edge free.
• Run the traces of rain from the top down, not across the surface.
• Add only one new sheet among the faded ones; it draws the attention at once.
• Try the paint, the varnish and the glue on an offcut first and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Who the set is for

For builders of dioramas in 1:35 scale with city or industrial buildings, whose scene comes out technically right but still holds too many bare surfaces. The diorama, the figures, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
