Responsibility details are not available.
A loose modeling sand of a fine grade in a red shade. It is used as the top layer of terrain wherever the ground is to be rough only to the eye and not to the touch: dusty roads, the edges of a railway line, drifts against a wall, areas around figures and bases. The fine grain matters here, because in small scales coarse gravel quickly slips into the impression of boulders.
Red earth refers to laterite and ferruginous soils, that is to African and Australian settings, to crushed brick beside masonry or to a crushed cinder surface. It also has a rewarding use in fantasy and sci-fi scenery, where it suits the surface of an alien planet. The shade can be tamed with a dust pigment or a thin filter, so a pronounced red can easily be turned into faded earth.
Coat the area with PVA glue, or lay down a thick layer of acrylic medium with a brush, and pour the sand into it with a surplus. Once it is dry, tap the loose grains off. Fix it with water with a drop of dish soap and thinned PVA glue dripped on with a pipette; drip from the side, not from above, or you will wash the layer away. The dry material raises dust, so do not work with it in a draft and do not pour it at face height.
