This kit of the KAG-3 bus extends the line of Soviet transport vehicles that AVD Models releases in 1:43 scale. It is a type from the time when bus transport in the Soviet Union was only finding its feet and vehicles came about in smaller batches at regional works. 1:43 is the same scale in which collector metal models of cars are sold, so the finished bus will stand beside the trucks, vans and passenger cars in your cabinet with no jarring difference in size.
The buses of the first post-war years came about by a simple but workable route: a body for passengers was built onto a ready-made truck chassis. The result was short, tall vehicles with a small number of seats that ran on country and suburban routes, served companies as works buses and carried shifts to and from work. The combination of an angular body and truck proportions is today what collectors find most interesting about these types, because modern transport has nothing like it.
A model of this type lives on sharp edges and straight lines. Before you start gluing, smooth the mating surfaces of the sides on abrasive paper laid on glass, so that the body does not bulge anywhere. A two-tone scheme is the most common on early buses, and when spraying, do it exactly the other way round from what you would expect: the lighter shade first, then mask and spray the darker one. We recommend taping the dividing line with tape cut to fit rather than following it by eye. At the end, break up the smooth finish with a fine dusting of the wheel arches and the bumpers.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
