The kit captures the PAG-2M bus, that is the updated version of a vehicle that was built on a truck chassis. The model in 1:43 scale is a rewarding one for collectors who want types outside the main lines of the big bus makers in a cabinet too. On a shelf beside ZIL and GAZ trucks it makes a logical pair, because it comes from the same technical basis.
Buses of the PAG line were built by the Pskov mechanical plant. From January 1972 the older form was replaced by the updated PAG-2M version, which was built on the GAZ-53A chassis. The lengthened body made it possible to raise the number of seats from twenty-four to twenty-six, which on a small bus meant a noticeable gain in usefulness. Vehicles of this type belonged to the category now called small and medium buses: they served shorter routes, works transport and connections to places where a large vehicle did not pay. Buses like these made up the everyday reality of transport, even if they reached photographic publications less often than the large long-distance types.
The body will take the most work: the large sides have to be flat and smooth, or every irregularity will show once sprayed. It pays to sand the surface down, even it up with a primer and only then paint. Mask the windows before spraying, and it is better to set aside an evening of its own for that. Paint the wheels and the chassis separately and leave joining them to the body to the end. Buses used to be painted in two colors, so precise masking of the dividing line all the way round suits well, ideally with flexible masking tape. Suggest the interior in color at least where it will be seen through the windows.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
