A DSPIAE tool with which grooves are drawn into the surface of a model. The name gives tungsten steel, that is a hard material for the working part; the color after the designation of the piece serves to tell the forms apart within the line.
It finds use wherever a surface is to be more finely divided than it came out of the mold. It restores tracks lost under filler, adds the gaps around hinged parts and completes grooves interrupted by the sanding of a seam. It also helps with conversions, where one production variant is built into another and the division has to be moved or added to. It works by pulling, so the material removed comes away as small shavings and the edge of the groove stays sharp.
Intended for builders who want full control over the final appearance and do not rely only on what the mold offered. It calls for a steady hand and patience: depth is added in layers, because a track that has wandered is much harder to put right than to create. Store the tool so that the tip does not touch other metal. A brief check after every stroke takes less time than a repair later.
