Armory 1:48 barrel for the 14.5 mm KPVT heavy machine gun is a small resin accessory that replaces the simplified plastic barrel on models of Soviet armored vehicles in 1:48 scale.

This is not a model of a vehicle nor of a weapon as a whole, but a single replacement part: the barrel of a 14.5 mm heavy machine gun in the tank version, as used in the small turrets of Soviet wheeled armored personnel carriers and reconnaissance vehicles. The casting is resin and in 1:48 scale it solves a detail that is practically impossible to produce in plastic.
The barrel is a thin cylinder with a perforated jacket and an opening at the muzzle. An injection mold has to split it lengthwise, so a groove running the whole length remains on the plastic part, the muzzle tends to be solid and the perforation is only suggested. Sanding the parting line off such a thin part usually destroys the rest of the relief. A separately cast barrel is by contrast straight, clean around its circumference and has a defined jacket. On a model the barrel is at the same time the first thing that catches the attention when you look at the turret.
The part is small and fragile, so work over a tray and preferably with tweezers. Wash the mold release agent off the casting, cut the casting block away with a fine razor saw as close as possible to the end of the barrel and level the surface with sanding paper. Use cyanoacrylate glue to join it to the turret, ideally the gel kind so that there is time to align the axis: the barrel has to be square to the turret and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, otherwise you will see the fault every time you look. It is painted in the vehicle shade, and the barrel itself is then emphasized with a dark metallic shade and a fine rub of graphite or metallic pigment on the edges.
The part is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
