This set from the LööK line of the Czech manufacturer Eduard serves to replace the instrument panel in the cockpit of a model of the Fairchild Republic A-10C Thunderbolt II ground-attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. The panel is supplied already pre-colored, so the modeler gets legible dials and panel labels without laboriously painting tiny details with a brush. Let us stress it right away: it is not an airplane model or a complete cockpit but an add-on that is inserted into a kit you have already bought.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II is a single-seat twin-engine ground-attack aircraft with a straight wing, designed around a rotary cannon and intended to support ground forces from low level. Characteristic of it are two engines mounted high on the sides of the rear fuselage, twin fins and an armored pilot's cockpit. The A-10C version is the result of an upgrade program that brought the machine a digital cockpit with multifunction displays, new controls and the ability to use precision-guided stores. That is exactly why the instrument panel of the A-10C differs visibly from the earlier machines of the A series, and for a faithful model it is one of the first details a viewer notices.
Before gluing, check whether the panel fits the cockpit tub of your kit in size; carefully cut away any excess plastic on the original panel and true the surface with a file or sanding paper. Glue in spots and with care, so that the glue does not run onto the visible colored surface. It is advisable to go over the colored panels with flat or semi-gloss varnish once dry, which evens out the surface, and to fit the cockpit glazing at the very end, so that no dust gets inside.
