A pre-cut self-adhesive masking set from Art Scale for a model of the Invader in the glass-nosed version, in 1:48 scale. The masks are cut to their final shape along the outlines of the frames, so it is enough to stick them on and spray. The single-sided version covers the outer side of the glazing; the inner edges of the framing are touched in with a brush or stay in the interior color. It is an accessory for a kit; you will not find the model, paints or glue in the box.
Where it pays off most
The glass-nosed version has considerably more divided panes than the attack variant. Hand-cut tape takes hours there and still wrinkles somewhere; a pre-cut mask holds a straight edge and the result is consistent on all the frames.
The Douglas Invader was a twin-engine all-metal attack bomber with piston radial engines. The glass-nosed variant had a station in the nose of the fuselage for directing the aircraft onto the target in level bombing, while the attack versions carried fixed gun armament in front. The type served for a number of years after 1945 and was modernized several times, so you will come across very varied finishes and equipment on it.
Wash the glazing first in lukewarm water with detergent and let it air dry; grease from your fingers is the most common reason a mask does not hold. Take the mask off with tweezers, lay it along the outline of the frame and press the edges down with a blunt toothpick. On broken-up glazing, work pane by pane rather than all at once. Spray thin coats with a pause; spraying the edges with clear varnish before the color reliably seals any leaks. Take the masks off shortly after drying, pulling at an angle along the surface.
The box holds masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not included.
