A set of masks in 1:48 scale for the landing gear bays of the A6M2-K trainer aircraft, cut for Eduard kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The A6M2-K is the two-seat trainer version of the Japanese A6M carrier fighter. It arose by modifying the single-seat machine: a second seat for an instructor was added behind the original cockpit, so the crew fitted into an extended space one behind the other. The airframe, including the wing and the retractable landing gear, stayed basically the same as on the fighter version, and the model therefore has the same open landing gear bays in the wing.
The masks are cut to the shape of the openings of these bays on Eduard kits in 1:48 scale. You stick them onto the interior once it is painted and dry, which protects it until the outer finish comes up. The boundary stays sharp and the same on both wings, which with hand-cut pieces of tape seldom works out.
The order of work is fixed: first the inside of the bays and the landing gear legs, then the mask, then the outer finish. Lay the mask exactly into the opening, run a blunt point along the edge and make sure it is not standing away anywhere. Spray the outer color in thin coats and rather from a greater distance, so that no mist gets under the edge. Once it is dry to the touch, remove the mask with tweezers; waiting several days does not pay, as dried paint then holds on the mask as well and the edge gets torn.
For modelers who build Japanese aircraft in 1:48 scale and want the landing gear bays cleanly separated from the outer finish. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
