About product

Eduard instrument panel set 1:48 Arado Ar 234B LooK

A set of the LooK range from the Czech maker Eduard for a model of the Ar 234B jet aircraft in 1:48 scale. The main content is a finished color instrument panel, which the modeler simply seats in place of the plastic part. That does away with the most demanding part of painting a cockpit — shading the individual gauges with a brush. The plastic model is not included in the package.

The real subject

The Ar 234B was a jet reconnaissance and bomber aircraft with two engines slung under the wing and with a very untypical nose: the whole nose was formed by a glazed cabin with no fixed frame in front of the pilot. The cockpit was therefore unusually light and the instruments spread out to the sides around the edge of the glass instead of a classic compact panel in front of the pilot. It is because of that that the interior of this type is exceptionally visible through the glazing — on a model, then, it is worth giving it more attention than on aircraft with a narrow canopy.

Usage tips

First try the new panel dry and find out how much plastic has to be taken away — you usually replace the plastic part entirely. Cut away gradually and keep trying, so that the panel sits at the right height and angle. Wash resin parts in warm water with detergent, cut the casting block off with a saw and level the surface, always with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, in the gel form on larger areas. Do not spray over the colored surface; instead, paint the surrounding interior so that the shade follows on. Polish the cabin glazing and fit it right at the end.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Ar 234B in 1:48 scale
  • Those who do not fancy painting small gauges with a brush
  • Builders who are bothered by a flat plastic imitation of an instrument panel
  • Modelers who appreciate that on this type the cockpit is clearly visible through the glazed nose

This is an accessory set, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. The panel is already colored from the factory. You will only paint the surrounding parts of the cockpit so that the shades follow on from one another.

As a rule yes. The new panel replaces the plastic part, so remove the original instrument panel and level the area. Work in small steps and keep trying it dry.

On the Ar 234B exceptionally so. The whole nose is glazed with no fixed frame, so the cockpit stays on show even once the model is finished.
