About product

Masking set 1:48 Avro Lancaster B.I TFace (Eduard)

This is not a kit but an accessory for a model. The set holds pre-cut self-adhesive masks of kabuki tape that cover the glazed areas of the Lancaster model in 1:48 scale while it is sprayed. The masks are laid on with tweezers, follow the shape of the frames and are peeled off after spraying. The manufacturer is the Czech company Eduard.

What the TFace designation means

On Eduard masks the TFace abbreviation says that the set allows for covering the glazing from both sides, that is from the outside and from the inside. Inside masking makes sense wherever the cockpit is transparent once it is built and the frames are meant to read in color when seen from within as well. On a bomber with extensive glazing this pulls the result together considerably.

The real subject

The Avro Lancaster B.I was a British four-engine heavy bomber of the Second World War powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin engines. A typical feature of the design was the long undivided bomb bay and the glazed gun positions in the nose, on the spine and in the tail. It is precisely because of the number of glazed areas that masking this type is among the more laborious parts of the build.

Usage tips

Degrease the glazing before laying the masks on and let it dry completely. Take the individual pieces off with sharp tweezers and press them down around the perimeter of the frame so that no gap is left anywhere. Spray the paint in thin coats so that it does not creep under the edge of the mask. Peel the masks off while the paint is still tacky rather than fully cured, and draw them slowly back over themselves.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want clean glazing frames without tracing them by hand with a brush.
  • Builders of large bombers with many glazed areas.
  • Those who also mask the inside of the cockpit.
  • Beginners, for whom masking by hand with tape takes the most time.

The set is an accessory for a plastic kit. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This is a set of masking templates, that is an accessory for building a model. The kit itself has to be obtained separately.

That the set is prepared for masking the glazing from both sides, that is from the outer and the inner face of the clear parts.

Best shortly after spraying, while the paint is only tacky. Draw the mask slowly back over itself, not straight up from the surface.

The extent of the set is not stated here. Please check the exact composition before ordering.
