A decal set in 1:48 scale from Art Scale, intended for models of the Bell AH-1G Cobra attack helicopter. It is a separate accessory with which a finished model can be marked differently from what the sheet supplied in the kit allows. The box holds decals only; the model itself and the paints are not included.
The Bell AH-1G was the first production helicopter designed from the outset as an attack machine, that is, without a cargo compartment for transport. It drew on the technical basis of the UH-1 type, taking over its turboshaft engine, its two-blade main rotor and parts of the drive train, but it was given an entirely new and very narrow fuselage with the crew seated in tandem, one behind the other. The gunner sat in front and operated the swiveling turret in the nose, with the pilot higher up behind him. The short stub wings on the sides of the fuselage carried the pylons for the armament and at the same time unloaded the main rotor in flight. The narrow cross section of the fuselage reduced the frontal area of the machine and became a characteristic feature of the whole Cobra family. The type entered service in the second half of the 1960s and became the starting point of a long line of twin-engine and modernized versions.
Decals are applied to a smooth gloss surface, so spray the painted model with gloss varnish first. With helicopters this matters even on the flat sides of the fuselage and on the doors, where a silvery rim around the film would give itself away at once. Soak the cut-out decal in lukewarm water for a few seconds, let it rest until the backing releases, and slide it into place. Adjust the position with a soft brush, blot the excess water away and use a decal softener to settle it over engraved lines, panel joints and rivets. Once it is perfectly dry, wash the surface clean of glue residue and seal the model with varnish in the sheen you have chosen.
The box holds decals only. The kit, paints, varnishes and decal softener are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
