A small part, a big difference. The Airacobra's exhausts come out of the fuselage sides roughly halfway along it, because the engine sits behind the pilot, so they are visible from every angle. This resin set from Eduard replaces the plastic stubs from the kit with the round type, with thin walls and genuinely open outlets. The parts are made by 3D printing, which manages a wall thinner than one that can be drawn out of a mold.
Two variants, one choice
Alongside the round stubs there is also a set with flat ones, the so-called fishtail. On the P-39 the shape differed with the build of the machine, so it pays to look at a photograph of the aircraft you want to build.
The P-39 grew up around a cannon firing through the axis of the propeller, and because of it got an unusual layout: the Allison engine behind the cockpit, the drive shaft under the pilot's seat and a nose gear. You got into the cockpit through car-type doors. Without a turbocharger the aircraft lost power at high altitude, but down at ground level it did very well, which Soviet pilots in particular appreciated. Smaller batches also served with other Allied air forces in Africa and the Mediterranean.
Rinse the set, separate it from the support structure and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue. We recommend fitting it only after the base camouflage, when masking becomes unnecessary. Build the metal surface up from a dark base coat and a metallic finish, best in several light layers. Darken the rounded outlets and dirty the surrounding fuselage lightly with thinned paint or pigments in the direction of the airflow. Do not overdo it; on this part the smoke traces tend to stay in a narrow band.
An add-on for a plastic kit; the aircraft itself is not included.
