The Eduard 1:48 resin engine for the Messerschmitt Bf 109E lets you build a model with the engine bay open and the complete powerplant in place. An accessory to a model, not an aircraft kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set for modelers who want to show what is normally hidden under the cowling as well. Resin allows the complex shapes of the block, the exhausts, the ancillaries and the mounts to be cast in one piece and at a depth of detail an injection mold would reach only by splitting them into many parts. Working with an open engine is also more demanding than a normal build: it calls for clean cutting of the casting blocks, dry-fitting and patience in painting small assemblies. The maker is the Czech firm Eduard.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 of the E series was a single-seat fighter with an all-metal structure, powered by the liquid-cooled Daimler-Benz DB 601 inverted V12 engine. Mounting the cylinders head-down freed up room for armament above the engine and allowed a lower nose profile, which improved the view. The engine used direct fuel injection, so unlike carbureted engines it did not cut out under negative g. Production machines of the E series were built in several sub-versions differing in armament and equipment.
Start by washing all the parts in lukewarm soapy water so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, and never break them; mark the fine outlets and tubes beforehand so that you do not cut them off by mistake. Dry-fit everything: the engine mount has to sit into the fuselage before anything is glued. It is glued with cyanoacrylate. Painting is easier in subassemblies: a base in a dark shade, a dry brush to pick out the edges, a dark wash into the recesses and fine oil stains on the lower surfaces. Then leave the cowling hinged open or lay it beside the model on the base.
This is an accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
