Double-sided masks for the glazing of the Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B in 1:48 scale, TFace version.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Blackburn Buccaneer was created for the navy as a machine that would slip toward its target just above the waves, below radar coverage. The land-based S.2B version brought it to the Royal Air Force, where it served for low-level attacks and later gained the ability to work with guided munitions. Its last flying was over the desert in 1991, when it marked targets for other machines. A strong, sturdy airframe and an unusual solution for the air exhaust from the leading edges gave the aircraft a shape nobody mistakes for anything else.
The name of the set says that the masks are prepared for both sides of the glazing. The inner set is mirrored and reduced in shape by the thickness of the material, so that the frame looks right from the outside as well as when you look into the cockpit.
The cutouts are made of thin Japanese paper with an adhesive that holds reliably yet does not pull the paint off when the mask is removed. The paper can be stretched slightly into a curve, which is useful on rounded canopies where a flexible film would crease.
First the inner cutouts are applied, the cockpit is finished and closed up, and only then do the outer ones follow. Cover the open areas between the masks with tape or masking fluid. Spray lightly so that the paint does not form a pronounced edge, and lift the masks off with tweezers within a few hours of spraying, while the coat is still pliable.
The inner side is masked before the glazing is fitted into the fuselage, otherwise it is hard to reach. Anyone who leaves this step for later usually ends up sticking tiny scraps through the cockpit opening with tweezers.
