A complete resin kit of the French Caudron C.450 racing aircraft in the larger 1:48 scale. Compared with the small 1:72 version, 1:48 scale lets the engine cowling, the cockpit and the details of the landing gear fairings come into their own - the result is a striking piece for a display case. The fine resin castings from the Hungarian maker SBS Model are intended for experienced modelers.
The Caudron C.450 belonged to the family of racing specials by the designer Marcel Riffard, built for the French speed trophy, the Coupe Deutsch de la Meurthe, in 1934. The miniature low-wing monoplane of wooden construction with a perfectly faired inverted inline Renault engine had fixed, aerodynamically faired landing gear - unlike its sister the C.460 with retractable gear. The refined aerodynamics let these machines reach top speeds even with a relatively weak engine, and brought a string of racing and record successes in the mid-1930s.
Wash the resin parts to remove the mold release agent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the surfaces with respiratory protection; glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate). In 1:48 scale the smoothness of the surface matters even more - fill the joints carefully and sand them down. Finish the blue racing paintwork with a gloss coat; apply the race numbers and lettering over a gloss surface so that the decals settle with no trace of the carrier film.
The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted, cast in resin. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
