A masking set 1:48 CW-21B for the cockpit glazing and for the wheels. The name gives the glazing from the outer and the inner side together with the wheels.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set deals with two places at once: the cockpit glazing of this light American fighter and its wheels. The name gives the glazing version for the outer and the inner side together with masks for the wheels, so the laborious business of running tape around a hub is gone. The model, the clear parts and the paints are not included.
The Curtiss-Wright CW-21 was created as a deliberately light interceptor in which the bet was on a fast climb rather than on armor. The CW-21B version had landing gear retracting into the wing and is best known for its use in Southeast Asia at the beginning of the war in the Pacific, where it got into an unequal fight with a more numerous opponent. The type stayed a rarity, which today makes it a rewarding and not often seen subject for a model.
It is the masks for the wheels that save the most work: the boundary between hub and tire comes out exactly round, which is almost impossible by hand. It has proved best to apply first the shade that is to stay covered and only then the second color. Let the wheel dry thoroughly between coats; both the rubber and the hub tend to be in a matte finish, and a matte coat takes a touch less well. On the cockpit the usual rules apply: a clean surface, pressed-down edges and thin coats.
