This item is not a kit of an aircraft but a detail accessory. It holds the wheels of the de Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth trainer biplane cast in resin in 1:48 scale. The set is made by the Czech firm Eduard, which has long specialized in accessories in resin and photo-etched parts. The parts are used in place of the wheels from the original kit and are intended for modelers who want a more distinct tire tread and a more cleanly rendered hub on a finished model.
On biplanes the wheels are among the most clearly visible details, because the landing gear is fixed and uncovered. Injection-molded plastic has a mold parting line on the tire and a shallower texture, whereas a resin casting captures it more crisply and without the need to sand the seams away laboriously. Replacing the wheels is therefore one of the simplest changes with a large visual effect, and even a modeler just starting out with resin will manage it.
Start by washing the parts in lukewarm soapy water so that any mold release agent is removed, otherwise paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutter and level the surface with abrasive paper; when sanding resin, protect your airways and work wet. Resin is not glued with modeling cement for plastic but with cyanoacrylate glue. Use a primer before painting, and then it is enough to bring out the seating of the tire on the hub with a dark wash. If you want a clean transition between the tire and the hub, paint the hub separately and mask it.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
