About product

TFace masks 1:48 de Havilland Mosquito B Mk.IV - Eduard

This is not a kit of the aircraft but a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for its glazed areas in 1:48 scale. The TFace version contains masks for both sides of the glazing, so the inner side of the frames can be sprayed in the interior color as well. On the Mosquito, with its extensive nose and cockpit glazing, that shows at first glance. Eduard, the Czech manufacturer from Obrnice near Most, die-cuts the masks from thin kabuki paper, which follows the curves and leaves no adhesive when lifted.

The real subject

The de Havilland Mosquito was a British twin-engine aircraft of largely wooden construction, powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce Merlin engines. The bomber versions did without defensive armament and relied on speed and altitude; the B Mk.IV was exactly such a type, one of the first bomber variants built in series. The machine stood out for its performance and versatility, and the same structure also served for reconnaissance, fighter and attack versions.

Tips for applying and spraying

Wash the glazed parts in lukewarm soapy water and degrease them. Apply the inner masks before you fit the part, spray the inner shade of the frames and only then close the cockpit up and go on with the outer masks. Lift the mask out of the sheet with a scalpel, press it down and work the edges with a toothpick so that nothing seeps under anywhere. Spray in thin coats and let them dry between passes; one heavy coat leaves a step at the edge of the mask. Lift the masks shortly after the paint has dried, pulling at a shallow angle along the edge. Glue the clear parts with canopy glue or with dispersion glue for glazing, as ordinary plastic cement would fog them.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of British Second World War aircraft in 1:48 scale
  • Modelers who want the frames treated from the inside as well
  • Those who want to avoid cutting tape for complex glazing
  • Builders working with an airbrush

The set contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

An ordinary set masks only the outer side of the glazing. TFace adds masks for the inner side as well, so the frames can be sprayed in the interior color.

It is not. These are masks only; the kit is sold separately.

That is not stated here. The set is listed for the B Mk.IV bomber version, whose glazed nose differs from the fighter versions.

Degrease the surface, work the edge of the mask with a toothpick and spray in thin coats. One heavy coat of paint causes the most trouble.
