A figure of a dog complemented by a doghouse in 1:48 scale. This is not an aircraft or a vehicle kit, but a scene accessory that makes a diorama look inhabited. The 1:48 scale is the home of aircraft models, so the set most often turns up in scenes of field airfields, hangars and support areas, but it serves just as well with vehicles and buildings in the same scale.
A kennel is a rewarding object: it has a clear silhouette, holds the scene together and can be used as an anchor point for the composition, for example at the corner of a building, a fence or a shelter. The dog belongs with it naturally and at the same time gives the viewer a sense of scale. The pair of objects also helps to fill an empty area of the base without drawing attention away from the main model.
Rinse and degrease the parts first, cut the casting residue and gates off with a sharp knife and sand the surface. Choose the glue to suit the material: cyanoacrylate for small resin parts, thin plastic cement for plastic. Apply a thin coat of primer before painting. The dog's coat looks good when a lighter shade is pulled over a darker base with a dry brush and the back, the ears and the muzzle are picked out. The kennel deserves a wooden texture: a lighter base, a brown wash into the gaps and fine wear on the edges. A final matte varnish will unify it all.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue and the base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
