1:48 Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless seatbelts STEEL are Eduard photo-etched seat belts for the cockpit of a model of the carrier-based dive bomber in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set deals with the seat belts, that is, a detail that anyone sees at first glance in an open cockpit. Plastic belts out of a mold are always thicker than the scale calls for and come across as stiff. Photo-etched sheet has a thickness close to reality and can be bent so that a strap hangs naturally. The STEEL designation belongs to the manufacturer's naming of the range; a more detailed specification is stated on the packaging of the set.
The SBD Dauntless was a two-seat carrier machine, so the cockpit has the pilot's position in front and the position of the second crew member at the rear. Both seats are clearly visible through the long glazed canopy, which on this type favors a carefully worked interior more than it would on a single-seat airplane.
Cut the belts out with a scalpel; never break them out. Degrease the sheet first, otherwise the paint will come off and the glue will not hold. Fold the buckles and fittings in a bending tool, and bend the straps themselves only gradually over the tip of tweezers or a round rod, so that a soft sag forms over the edge of the seat. Apply cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal amount, ideally on the tip of a wire. Before you fix the belts, lay the seat into the cockpit and check how they will run; once cured they cannot be moved.
This is an accessory for a plastic model. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
