A detail set showing the pair of flexible defensive machine guns of .30 caliber (7.62 mm) at the rear station of the SBD-5 Dauntless carrier dive bomber in 1:48 scale. It combines finely cast resin parts with etched ones. This is an accessory, not the model itself.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless was an American carrier dive bomber that played a key part in the fighting in the Pacific, at Midway in particular. The SBD-5 version belonged to the late production batches, and the rear gunner operated a flexible pair of machine guns to defend against fighters.
Wash the resin parts free of mold release agent in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off and sand them with respiratory protection. Bend the fine etched parts with a bending tool. Everything is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), and the barrels and sights are best painted separately before final assembly.
This is an add-on set, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
