This is not a model of the aircraft but a package of accessories for one. Big Ed is the designation used by the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a bundle of several separate sets brought together into one package and one price. This item is prepared for a kit of the Lockheed F-104C Starfighter in 1:48 scale. With Eduard the customer tells the kind of goods by the designation of the line: a full photo-etched set carries the series designation forty-nine, a smaller pre-painted Zoom set the designation FE, masks the designation EX, and a bundle exactly the abbreviation Big Ed. You will therefore find more than one item with the same name, differing only in that designation, and this one is the bundle.
The F-104C was the Starfighter version for the US Air Force, derived from the basic design with a very thin straight wing of small span and a slender fuselage around the J79 turbojet. Against the first batches it received equipment for in-flight refueling and wider scope for carrying external stores, which moved it from a pure interceptor toward tactical use. The structure was built for high speed, which shows in the characteristic shape of the intakes and the tail surfaces as well.
Cut the photo-etched parts off the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and true the burrs up with a fine file. Bend them in a tool or between two blades, not with your fingers. Degrease the parts that are not pre-painted, give them a primer and spray them with an airbrush; the pre-painted parts do not have to be painted. Glue with cyanoacrylate in a minimal dose, and on large areas a thin glue with a longer open time is more suitable. Fit the interior parts before you close the fuselage up, because once it is glued you will not reach them.
This is an accessory set, not a kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
