An injection-molded plastic kit of the Lockheed F-104J Starfighter supersonic interceptor in the service of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) in 1:48 scale from Hasegawa. The model is known for its sharp detail and offers decals for a number of the Japanese squadrons that operated the Starfighter. Check the particular schemes against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was a supersonic fighter with extremely thin, short wings, nicknamed the missile with a man in it for its performance. It was powered by a single General Electric J79 engine and reached about twice the speed of sound. The F-104J version was built under license by Mitsubishi of Japan as an interceptor for the defense of Japanese airspace. Typical features were the tanks and missiles on the wingtips.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. Paint the cockpit and pick it out before you close the fuselage up, and mask the glazing. Do not sand the sharp leading edges of the thin wings too much. Many machines flew in polished metal; natural metal surfaces stand out over a smooth base, and after the gloss coat and the decals bring out the panel lines with a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
