A kabuki tape masking set for the exhaust nozzle of the F100 engine on an F-16 model in 1:48 scale. It lets you divide the nozzle into areas with different metal shades.
Responsibility details are not available.
On a fighter model the exhaust nozzle is one of the few places where several metal shades, heat-stained panels and dark gaps meet over a small area. Masking a transition like that by hand goes badly: the surface is curved, there are many segments and tape holds on them poorly. This set solves exactly that. The individual pieces are cut in advance to the shape of the nozzle, so all you have to do is stick them on, spray the shade and take them off.
The masks are made of kabuki tape, that is a thin paper masking tape that can be pressed even into a curved shape and leaves no adhesive on the surface when removed. That is exactly why it suits a nozzle, where ordinary tape lifts on a compound curve and paint runs under it.
Assemble the nozzle first, sand the joints and degrease the surface. Apply the masks only after that, but always before spraying. Lift a piece out with tweezers, lay it on and press it down all around. Spray in thin coats, as metal shades take less paint than you expect. Take the mask off as soon as the paint becomes tacky. The exhaust nozzle differs in shape between the two engine types used on the F-16, which is why the set is tied to the version with the F100 engine, the turbofan of this aircraft.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
