A set of masking stencils for the national insignia and other markings of an F-35B Lightning II model in 1:48 scale. The name gives Tamiya kits as what it is meant for. With it the markings are not applied but sprayed.
A decal carries a film that shows through easily on a matte finish as a glossy outline. On today's low-visibility machines that is doubly conspicuous, because the real insignia are sprayed on the aircraft and differ from the finish around them only in shade. A stencil removes the film completely: the insignia is created out of paint, it settles into panel seams and the surface under it stays matte.
The set is used only on a finished and dried base coat. Seat the stencil in place, press the edges down with a blunt tip and cover the surroundings so that no mist drifts over. Apply the paint square to the surface, in thin coats and rather in two goes; a heavy coat creeps under the edge and the insignia blurs. Take the stencil off while the coat has not yet fully cured.
For modelers who build the F-35B in 1:48 scale and want the markings sprayed, not applied. Check the placement of the insignia on a particular version beforehand in the kit instructions. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
