An accessory from the Czech manufacturer Eduard replaces the ejection seat in the cockpit of an F-35B Lightning II model in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but a single, highly conspicuous part: with the canopy open the seat is the most noticeable part of the interior, and the part from the box tends to be only roughly suggested. According to the name the seat is made by three-dimensional printing, so it holds sharp edges, fine straps and the division of the backrest even where an injection mold has no chance.
The F-35B is the version of the F-35 family for short takeoff and vertical landing, recognizable by the lift fan behind the cockpit and the swiveling engine nozzle. All versions of the F-35 use the same type of Martin-Baker US16E ejection seat, so the shape of the seat is common to the whole family. In 1:48 scale the seat is large enough for the difference between a coarse part and fine detail to tell on it.
Separate the part from the carrier structure with a sharp cutter, level the surfaces with fine abrasive paper and dry-fit it in the cockpit tub before fitting. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Paint the seat separately from the model: spray a primer, then the basic shades and finally bring out the straps, handles and safety pins with a contrasting color. A dark wash will pull out the division, and a final matte clear coat will unify the surface. Fit the seat into the cockpit right at the very end, so that it is not damaged during further handling.
