Eduard 1:48 F-35C Lightning RAM panels mask

This mask from the Czech manufacturer Eduard is intended for a plastic model of the naval F-35C Lightning II version in 1:48 scale. Unlike the usual masks for glazing, it serves for spraying the so-called RAM panels, that is the areas formed of radar absorbent material, which on the real machine have a slightly different shade from the surrounding surface. The masks are die-cut from thin kabuki film and mark these areas out exactly on the skin of the model.

The real subject

The F-35C is the carrier version of the fifth-generation Lightning II fighter intended for operation from American aircraft carriers. It has an enlarged wing area and strengthened landing gear for catapult launches and landings on the deck. The surface is covered with panels of material that reduces radar reflectivity.

Use

• Transfer the parts of the mask onto the corresponding areas of the skin of the model.
• Paint over them with the shade of the RAM panels, ideally with an airbrush.
• The film gives sharp and accurate edges to the individual panels.
• Once dry, remove the mask carefully.
