F-4C, double-sided painting mask 1:48 (Art Scale) is a set of self-adhesive masks for the glazing of both Phantom cockpits from the Academy kit. An accessory for a build, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Pre-cut painting masks for the Academy kit of the Phantom II in the F-4C version in 1:48 scale. The set covers the glazing of both cockpits while spraying, so that the framing stays sharp and equally wide. It is not a kit or a finished model but an accessory for painting. The double-sided version means that the sheet contains parts for the outer and the inner side of the glazing, so the frames can be sprayed in the interior shade from inside as well, which shows clearly with the canopies slid back.
Wash, degrease and dry the clear part completely. Take the mask out of the sheet with a scalpel, lay it on the frame and press it down with a soft wooden stick all around the perimeter. Trim any overhang past the edge of the part with a fresh blade along the outline. Spray the inner side in the interior shade first, let it dry and only then mask and spray the outside. Lay the paint on in thin coats with short pauses; a heavy coat will flow under the edge of the mask. Lift the mask right after it is dry to the touch and pull it back at an angle over itself.
The F-4C was the version of the Phantom II for the US Air Force, derived from the carrier variant. It was a two-seat twin-engine machine with J79 turbojets; compared with its naval predecessor it was given, among other things, provisions for in-flight refueling with a boom receptacle and dual controls. Both sliding canopies have prominent frames, and masking them with tape is tedious.
The mask is an accessory, not a kit. The basic Academy kit, paints, glue and thinners are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
