Interior 3D decal for the F-4E Phantom II (1:48, Kelik)

A raised, color-printed decal for the cockpit, not a model of the aircraft. The instrument panels, the side consoles, the seats and the seat belts of both cockpits are printed with raised three-dimensional detail and in color straight from the factory, so they replace both painting and photo-etched parts. The set is made by the brand Kelik (ReSKit) and is shaped for the plastic F-4E Phantom II kit in 1:48 scale from Meng.

The real subject

The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was an American two-seat supersonic multirole combat aircraft and one of the most widespread machines of the Cold War. The F-4E version brought a built-in rotary cannon in a lengthened nose and modernized avionics. It served with the US Air Force and with a number of allies from the Vietnam War through to later conflicts.

Application

• First sand the corresponding plastic cockpit parts smooth; the 3D decal is stuck straight onto them.
• Lift the element off the backing paper with tweezers (on some sets a brief soaking helps) and offer it up in place.
• Press it down gently so that the relief settles into the surface; both cockpits hold a great many small pieces.
• The procedure suits more advanced modelers.
