1:48 F-4E/EJ/F/G Phantom II In And Out is a double-sided masking set for the glazing of the cabin from Dead Design. The templates are cut for the inner and the outer side of the canopy, so the frame looks right even when seen from the cockpit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set from the manufacturer Dead Design contains masking templates for both sides of the glazing. That is the difference against the basic version of the same set, which deals only with the outside. When the frame is sprayed from the outside only, a transparent strip of clear plastic is left where a solid frame should be when you look into the cockpit. The double-sided set removes this shortcoming. According to the name it is cut for the F-4E, F-4EJ, F-4F and F-4G versions. It is an accessory to a model, not a kit.
The procedure is reversed: it starts inside. First the inner templates are stuck on, the interior shade of the frame is sprayed and left to dry thoroughly. Only then is the canopy turned over, the outer templates stuck on and the shade of the airframe sprayed. Anyone who swaps the order around usually ends up with the inner color showing through an imperfectly covered outside, or with the still soft first coat smeared during the second masking.
The inner side of a canopy tends to be more rounded than the outer one, so a mask seats there less well. Lay the template down from the center toward the edges, therefore, and press the edge out with a blunt tool, so that no air bubble is left under it. Between the two phases give the part time, ideally overnight. The inside is also harder to check, so it pays to hold the part against the light and verify whether both sides of the frame line up.
