A set of masks for spraying the national insignia and other markings on a model of the Phantom II. According to the name it covers the F-4E, F-4EJ and F-4G versions and is cut for Zoukei-Mura kits in 1:48 scale.
A sprayed insignia looks different from a decal. It has no carrier film, so no glossy step or haze around the edges is created on the surface, and the paint stays part of the finish even after matting. It pays off especially on large insignia on the wing and the fuselage, where the film of a decal is most visible. The designations F-4E, F-4EJ and F-4G refer to the American and the Japanese form of the Phantom, so the set is aimed at more than one service.
The masks are applied to a finished, cured and degreased finish, that is before spraying the insignia and not after it. The surface under the mask should be smooth; on a coarse matte the paint creeps under. Press the edges down carefully with a wooden stick and spray square to the surface, so that the paint does not get under the edge. Apply several thin coats, and on a multicolored insignia keep to the order of shades given in the instructions for the set. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has set and pull it away at a sharp angle along the surface.
The package contains masks only. The kit of the aircraft, paints and decals are not included, unless stated otherwise.
