About product

Aber 1:35 - a two-part 8.8 cm Pak 43/3 L/71 barrel for the Jagdpanther

An accurately machined metal barrel in 1:35 from the Polish firm Aber, made as a two-part component. It is not a kit: it is a replacement part for a model of the German Jagdpanther tank destroyer in the G1 late production and G2 versions. A metal barrel has no parting line, does not warp and has a really drilled muzzle. It is on this machine that the swap pays off most: the long thin barrel is the dominant feature of the whole model and every irregularity shows on it.

The real subject

The Jagdpanther was a German tank destroyer built on the chassis of the Panther tank. Its gun of 8.8 cm caliber with a barrel length of 71 calibers was housed in a low, heavily sloped hull with no rotating turret, which gave the machine a low silhouette and strong frontal protection at the cost of a limited traverse. On the later batches a change was made from a one-piece barrel to a two-part version, on which a worn front section could be replaced separately; that is also the external recognition feature by which the later vehicles are told from the early ones.

Fitting tips

First check which version you are building, as the two-part barrel belongs on the late G1 and on the G2, not on early vehicles. Cut the plastic barrel off at the mantlet, clean the hole out with a drill bit and try the part dry. It is glued with super glue a drop at a time, taking care over the alignment of the two sections. Degrease the metal and paint over a primer for metal, and fit the barrel at the end of the build.

Who it is for

  • builders of German ground equipment in 1:35
  • modelers building the late versions of the Jagdpanther
  • anyone who wants to capture the two-part barrel version correctly
  • competition and display-case builds

This is an accessory, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

The later vehicles were given a barrel divided into two parts so that a worn front section could be replaced separately. It is also an external recognition feature: the early versions had a one-piece barrel.

For the G1 late production and G2 versions. Early vehicles take the one-piece version, which is a separate part.

It is not. This is a replacement metal barrel for a model you already have. The base kit has to be obtained separately.

Clean the hole left by the cut-off plastic barrel with a drill bit, try the part dry and glue with super glue a drop at a time. Watch the alignment of the two sections and the direction of the barrel.
