The set covers both cockpits of the two-seat Phantom — the instrument panels, the side consoles, the seats and the safety belts are printed with raised three-dimensional detail and colors straight from the factory, so it replaces painting and photo-etched parts alike. It is intended for the plastic F-4J kit in 1:48 scale; before buying, please check that you have the matching kit.

The real subject

The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was an American two-seat multi-role fighter with two J79 engines and exceptional performance. The J version was created for the US Navy and Marine Corps with a more powerful radar and improved avionics. The Phantom made a marked mark on the fighting over Vietnam and became one of the most widespread Western fighters of its era.

Application

• First sand the plastic parts of both cockpits smooth — the 3D decal goes directly onto them.
• Separate the element from the backing paper with tweezers (on some sets a brief soak helps) and lay it in place. Leave out softening solutions: chemistry meant for classic decals attacks the printed resin.
• Press it down gently so that the relief settles onto the surface; work calmly, as the parts are small.
• The work suits more advanced modelers rather better.
