An injection-molded plastic kit of the AH-64A attack helicopter in 1:72 scale from the Polish maker Mistercraft, in a form referring to the Israeli Air Force. The model is intended to be glued and painted. The contents of the box, the number of parts and the number of decal options are stated on the box.
The AH-64A is the first production version of the two-seat Apache attack helicopter. The crew consists of a pilot and a weapon systems operator seated in tandem, the armament is carried on stub-wing pylons and is completed by a trainable cannon under the forward fuselage. The machine has two turboshaft engines, a four-blade main rotor and fixed landing gear with a tailwheel. The Israeli Air Force uses its own name for its Apache helicopters, referring to a venomous snake, and used the machines in a desert environment different from the one the type was originally designed for. Its service color schemes and equipment therefore differ from the American examples.
A helicopter in 1:72 scale has small parts, mainly on the landing gear and the pylons, and it pays to separate them with a saw rather than with cutters. Mask the cockpit glazing before spraying, and the transitions between the frames will then stand out. Glue the plastic with a thin cement. After a primer apply the main shade with an airbrush, settle the decals onto a gloss varnish and fix them with a matte one. At the end we recommend a restrained wash into the engraved lines and a light dusting around the engine outlets.
