F-4J Phantom II (late v.) cockpit set is a resin detail set from the Czech maker Aires in 1:48 scale. It replaces the cockpit of a plastic model of the late version of the F-4J carrier fighter with a markedly finer and more faithful rendering.

This is not a kit of an aircraft but a replacement cockpit in cast resin supplemented with photo-etched parts. The set is used to replace the original interior of a plastic model of the F-4J in 1:48 scale and it brings substantially crisper detail on the instrument panels, the side consoles and the inner walls than injection molding in plastic can create. The rendering corresponds to the late production state of the machine. Aires is a Czech maker whose resin cockpits have long been a recognized standard in aircraft modeling.
The F-4J Phantom II was the version of the two-seat machine for the US Navy and the Marine Corps. It entered service in the second half of the 1960s, received more powerful engines and a stronger onboard radar, and was armed exclusively with guided missiles, without a built-in gun. Late production examples differ from early ones in modifications to the controls and in small changes to the airframe. The cockpit of the Phantom is intricate and a large part of it is in view when the canopies are open, which makes it one of the most frequently improved assemblies on a model.
First wash the parts in warm water with a drop of detergent, so that the mold release residue disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw rather than snapping them, and true the surface up on abrasive paper. Sand resin wet and with respiratory protection. Fitting usually calls for thinning the inner walls of the fuselage and for several dry runs, and only then is it glued with cyanoacrylate glue. A primer is necessary before painting. Instrument panels come out best after a dark color goes on, the recesses are picked out and fine drybrushing is added.
The set is an accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
