F-4S Phantom II electronic bay is a resin detail set from the Czech maker Aires in 1:48 scale. It shows the avionics bay of the F-4S and makes it possible to build the model with the service covers hinged open.

This item is not a kit of an aircraft but a resin accessory showing the electronics bay of the F-4S Phantom II in 1:48 scale. It makes it possible to build the model with the service covers open and to show the internal installation that is otherwise hidden under the skin. The castings are supplemented with photo-etched parts for the finest elements, such as the latches, the brackets and the placards. The maker is the Czech company Aires, a long-established supplier of resin aircraft accessories.
The F-4S came out of an upgrade of older F-4J machines for the US Navy and the Marine Corps. The program included strengthening the airframe, modifications to the powerplant and the addition of leading-edge slats on the wing, which improved handling at low speeds. The electronic equipment of the Phantom was extensive for its day and it was housed in separate bays of the airframe reached through hinged panels. An open avionics bay is therefore a rewarding subject for a model completed with figures of ground personnel and service equipment.
The opening for the bay has to be cut out of the plastic model, so first trace the outline and cut a smaller opening that you then bring up to size with a file. Wash the resin parts in warm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and true the surface up. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue, preferably a gel one, so that there is time for positioning. The inside is usually painted in a light shade, after which the recesses are emphasized with a dark wash and the edges with drybrushing. The effect of the scene is helped by a few pieces of thin wire as wiring.
The set is an accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
