The real subject

The F-5E Tiger II is a single-seat light supersonic fighter with a pair of turbojet engines. It came about as an inexpensive and undemanding machine for air forces that needed a capable fighter without the cost of the heavy types, and it spread to dozens of countries. Building and painting tips

• try the parts dry, above all the fuselage joints and the air intakes

• protect the slender nose and the wingtips, as they are easily damaged by sanding
• varnish with gloss before the decals, which lowers the risk of silvering
• fit the undercarriage, the clear parts and the external stores only after the airframe is painted
