A complete replacement of the cockpit for the model of the Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. The PRINT designation means parts made by 3D printing, which can handle finer and undercut shapes than an injection mold can manage: the framework of the cockpit tub, the controls or thin-walled brackets. The qualifier in the name specifies the version with a reflector-type gunsight, which is what tells it apart from sets with a different sight. The exact package contents and the number of parts do not follow from the name.
The Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat was an American carrier fighter with a radial engine and fixed wings, used in the first years of the war in the Pacific. The cockpit had a tubular structure with side panels and stayed clearly visible under the sliding canopy. The type of reflector gunsight is one of the details in which the individual production batches differ.
Here, unlike with pre-finished sets, you do the painting yourself, and that is the main part of the work. Wash the parts first and let them dry completely, then lay down a primer, ideally in a shade close to the final color so that a thinner covering coat is enough. With 3D printing in particular, thin coats are a must: every heavier pass fills in the fine structure you are buying the set for. Then comes the base shade, a wash into the recesses, a dry brush on the edges and spot work on the controls. Finally unify the whole area with a matte coat and put a drop of clear gloss only into the dials and onto the glass of the gunsight. Close the interior into the fuselage only once it is dry, or the narrow frames break out easily.
This is an add-on to a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
